ACCREDITATION OF COACHES

CAQ has introduced an accreditation scheme for chess coaches working in Queensland. To become CAQ-accredited, coaches must meet the following prerequisites:-

1. Possession of a current Suitability Card for Child Related Employment issued by the Commission for Children and Young People (for information see www.childcomm.qld.gov.au/criminal/criminal_new.htm )

2. Possession of an Australian Coaching Council Level 1 General Principles of Coaching certificate (for information see http://www.hms.uq.edu.au/cpase/coaching.htm ) or equivalent tertiary teaching qualification

Coaches meeting the prerequisites will be accredited by CAQ as Level 1 Chess Coach upon satisfactory completion of the chess-specific assessment (see below) and payment of the annual accreditation fee of $10. Accreditation wil be valid for one year, and may be renewed each year upon payment of the accreditation fee. Accreditation or renewal may be refused if, in the opinion of the CAQ Council, the applicant is not fit to be accredited as a chess coach.

Applicants with advanced chess skills who already have substantial coaching experience will be accredited as Level 2 or Level 3 Coach, based on their ACF ratings at the time of application. Players rated over 1600 will be accredited as Level 2, and over 1850 as Level 3.
